Osteoarthritis or DJD (Degenerative Joint Disease)

Osteoarthritis may develop in almost any joint and does so in the foot as well. Arthritis may develop due to foot deformities or after an injury. Arthritis in the big toe joint, hallux rigidus, is common and often leads to painful and poor joint motion.

Osteoarthritis or DJD (Degenerative Joint Disease)

Degenerative arthritis is a cause of chronic joint pain and generally will not cause the acute inflammation seen with gout. This arthritis is characterized by growth along the bone margins and hard prominences under the skin.

Surgery is indicated in patients with chronic pain and difficulty wearing shoes. Bad / arthritic joints may be replaced by a joint implant or fused together.
